Move Over Millennials - Gen Z is Here
With all the talk over Millennials, Generation Z is hardly getting noticed, but employers need to be prepared as this generation (born 1995-2012) is just beginning to enter the workforce – all 73 million of them!
According to generational expert David Stillman, here are some traits of this generation based upon a survey of Zers:
- They’d prefer their own office to an open environment and would rather work independently than collaborate.
- They want to work for digitally-advanced companies and align with organizations that support their causes.
- They like to create their own job titles and see no difference between working from an office, home, or Starbucks.
- The concept of “being present” is digital – not physical (they live in a “phigital” world, according to Stillman).
- Interestingly, this is the first group of employees who did not transition into a world of smart phones and Wi-Fi: they grew up in it.
In the world of relocation, this will likely translate to an employee group who doesn’t see online access to relocation tools and self-empowerment over their choices and moving schedule as a “new idea” or option. It will be the expectation.
NuCompass’ CoPilot platform is designed to give employees the option of going “phigital” during their move, while also providing help and personal support when needed. Particularly valuable for employees with Lump Sum or Managed Cap type moves, CoPilot is well-positioned to meet the needs of the Generation Z.
